Midleton Participate! Saturday 7th October

Nasc will be hosting a Participate event in My Place, Midleton, Co. Cork on Saturday 7th October 2017 from 10 AM – 1 PM.

Minister of State for Equality, Immigration and Integration David Stanton will be opening the event.

The event forms part of Nasc’s ‘Participate’ project, which seeks to promote the political and civic participation of migrants in Ireland.

“It is designed as a ‘one stop shop’, where migrant and new communities can meet with representatives from a variety of organisations to find out some ways to participate in public life,” states Project Co-Ordinator Jennifer DeWan.

Organisations who will be hosting stalls at the event include: South and East Cork Area Development (SECAD), Cork Education and Training Board, Citizens Information, Cork Volunteer Centre, New Communities Partnership Cork, Midleton Arts Festival, Cork Volunteer Centre, Midleton Tourist Office and Cork County Public Participation Network.

People attending the event will be able to find out about: applying for citizenship; voter registration; legal advice and information; employment and training opportunities; volunteering; active citizenship; local events and activities; community and youth engagement, and more.

Ms. DeWan continues, “Participation is the key to integration and this project offers people ways to participate in their local community and in Irish society.”

“Although the event is geared towards migrants and ‘new Irish’ all are welcome to attend. We all could do with more opportunities to hear about what’s going on in our own communities,” Ms DeWan states.

‘Participate’ is part of a joint EU project, which includes several partners including the Immigrant Council of Ireland, Migration Policy Group, Migrant Rights Network (UK) and Objectif (Belgium). The project is funded by the Rights, Equality & Citizenship (REC) Programme of the European Union and by the Open Society Foundation.
