Nasc to host Cork Participate! stall at Africa Day Cork 2017

Mon, May 22, 2017

As part of this year’s Africa Day celebrations in Cork, Nasc will be hosting a Cork Participate! stall.

Africa Day Cork 2017 will be held on Saturday 27th May in Fitzgerald Park from 12 pm – 6 pm.

The Cork Participate! stall will provide information about aspects of political and civic participation, including:

  • Applying for citizenship
  • Registering to vote
  • Volunteering
  • Becoming active citizens
  • Getting involved in community activities
  • And more!

“We are looking forward to being a part of Cork’s Africa Day celebrations this year,” states Participate! Project Co-ordinator Jennifer DeWan. “Africa Day is a chance for Cork to celebrate its growing diversity and enjoy the food, music, art and culture of some of the many ethnicities that now make Cork their home.”

“Participation is vital to inclusion – people who participate in and contribute to a society are made to feel a part of it. That is how integration works. The information and advice we provide through the Participate! project is about supporting people towards greater participation and integration – to make Ireland home for everyone who lives here.”

Participate! is a collaborative project to promote greater participation and integration of migrant communities in Ireland. As part of the Participate! project, Nasc Ireland and our partners the Immigrant Council of Ireland will be working with migrant and community groups throughout the country to host events and stalls designed to help “Make Ireland Home”.

Participate! is part of a joint EU project, which also includes several international partners including Migration Policy Group, Migrant Rights Network (UK) and Objectif (Belgium). The project is funded by the Rights, Equality & Citizenship (REC) Programme of the European Union and by the Open Society Foundation. To find out more about Nasc’s Participate project, click here.
