CESCA – Press Statement: Stand Up For Someones Human Rights Today – Cork Conference

human-rights-day1For Immediate release: Embedding Equality and Human Rights – A Major Conference in Cork   

 Cork Equal and Sustainable Community Alliance (CESCA) are holding a major conference in Cork entitled “Embedding Equality and Human Rights”.

This conference, which will be held on Monday 5th December will mark International Human Rights Day, which is celebrated on the 10th December annually in commemoration of the adoption of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

The theme for this year is Stand Up for Someone’s Rights Today.  Kate Moynihan a CESCA member and coordinator of LINC said that “In these times of global uncertainty we can no longer sit on the side-lines. We must all, both individually and collectively, take a stand to protect the rights of our marginalised and disadvantaged communities”.

Speakers on the day will include Emily Logan – Chief Commissioner, Irish Human Rights & Equality Commission, Jillian Van Turnhout – Chair of Early Childhood Ireland and Dr Austin O’Carroll – GP, Paralympian and Social Justice Advocate.

Emily Logan Human Rights Commissioner “welcomed the work of CESCA as a diverse range of organisations who have come together to address issues of disadvantage in Cork City”

Siobhan O Dowd, member of CESCA and coordinator of Ballyphehane Togher Community Development Project said: “This is a really important event for the city bringing together the public and community sector to stand up for human rights and equality”.

A key part of the day will be a panel discussion with personnel from Public Services in Cork City exploring embedding human rights and equality in agency practice. There will also be a number of workshops on the day demonstrating best practice in collaborative community work.
