Deyemi’s Story in the spotlight
On Monday the 24th of February, RTE’s Nationwide broadcasted a special programme about the 2013 Better Together Awards and featured Nasc’s competition video entry. The Better Together Awards, held in Dublin Castle in December, honoured the best of Irish voluntary organisations that form the backbone of communities.
The programme featured interviews with some of the winners as well as a number of clips from some of the videos entered in the Video Competition including Nasc’s entry entitled ‘Deyemi’s Story’. Although we didn’t win the prize for our category in the competition, we were delighted to have the opportunity be featured on Nationwide and showcase the work that we do around supporting Separated Children. Everyone at Nasc was so proud to see Deyemi in the spotlight too, she looked beautiful!

The video centers around the story of Deyemi who was a Separated Child when she first arrived in Ireland aged 14 but is now 19 and classed as an ‘Aged Out Minor’, living in direct provision. Nasc supports Deyemi and other young people in similar situations access education by providing financial assistance as well as emotional support as they try to make their way in the world on their own.
If you missed the Nationwide program, you can still access the video here.
