Fri, September 21, 2012

Yesterday, Nasc and PILA (the Public Interest Law Alliance) co-hosted a legal education event in Cois Tine, in Cork City. PILA is a project of FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres). In addition to providing legal education, PILA runs a professional pro bono referral scheme to enhance organisations’ capacity to use the law in promoting change.

Solicitor Brendan O’Connell discusses housing law

The morning session, on housing law, was presented by Elaine O’Driscoll and Brendan O’Connell of PJ O’Driscoll and Sons Solicitors. The afternoon session was presented by John Hussey of John Hussey & Co Solicitors and Notaries of Fermoy on family law.

The day was well-attended and included solicitors as well as representatives from local organisations working in the areas of social housing, domestic violence and immigration.

Claire Cumisky, Legal Officer at Nasc, stated: “We engage with PILA regularly in our legal work advocating for the rights of migrants, but this was the first time we have joined together for a legal education event in Cork. We were delighted with the turn out.”
