Nasc engages with local students
Over the past years Nasc has developed a great relationship with a number of local educational institutions in Cork and is delighted to be able to engage and share information on our work with students from a variety of disciplines. Over the past month in particular, Nasc has given presentations to University College Cork students both at our offices on Ferry Lane as well as to the UCC Amnesty International Society on the university campus.
On February 24th, Nasc was invited by the UCC Amnesty International Society, to present on issues around Immigration and Asylum Procedures in Ireland and the work that Nasc does to support migrants in Cork. Our Legal Intern Ultan Connolly did a great job presenting these issues which stimulated lots of interesting questions and discussions.

Nasc’s Campaigns and Communications officer, Jennifer DeWan, also hosted a seminar together with UCC lecturer Olaniyi Kolawole on the asylum process in Ireland from a sociological perspective. It was really encouraging to see such a large number of multinational students interested and engaged with the real day to day issues of marginalisation and discrimination that asylum seekers face in the Direct Provision system.
Most recently, Nasc was asked to host a lecture at the Mallow College of Further Education as part of an Intercultural Studies component of the Applied Social Studies course. Students of this course were preparing for a project on the experience of Immigrants, Refugees & Asylum Seekers or the Travelling Community in Ireland and we were delighted to share our knowledge and experience in these areas with them.
