_MG_9971On Friday 24th January at the City Council Chambers, Lord Mayor Cllr Catherine Clancy presented several mature students with FETAC major awards for their successful completion of Nasc’s FETAC course for migrants, funded by the Cork VEC.

Eight  students were awarded certificates as a result of attending Nasc’s Information and Communication Technologies course, taught by Moawia Eldjack, from June 2012 to August 2013.  Four of those students received major awards for having completed all six modules of the course.  Students on the course come from all over the world, including Romania, Afghanistan, Latvia, Nigeria, Malaysia and the Sudan.

Nasc Operations Manager and course instructor Moawia Eldjack commented:

“We are so delighted for all of the students who completed the course, and particularly those students who successfully completed all of the modules and are receiving major awards.  They have worked incredibly hard over the last year and it is an amazing achievement, especially for those students who came to Ireland with very little English or any knowledge of computers.”

One of the students, Cudaie Rostas, who received a major award and spoke a few words on behalf of the students at the ceremony stated that:

“Nasc gave me all the help I needed to go further with my education.  With their help I’ve ended up doing a certificate course in IT system maintenance in Cork Institute for Technology.”
