PILA and Nasc Legal Education Event

The Public Interest Law Alliance (PILA) and Nasc are delighted to host a legal education event for NGOs and community groups in Cork.

Venue: Cois Tine, St Mary’s, Popes Quay, Cork

Time: 10.00am-3.30pm

Date: Thursday 20 September 2012

Elaine O’Driscoll, Solicitor with PJ O’Driscoll Solicitors, will deliver a session on housing law. Elaine will speak about, amongst other things, obligations on Local Authorities to house, obligations on Local Authorities to maintain housing and anti-social behaviour, evictions & excluding orders. She will also look at the connection between housing law and equality and European Convention on Human Rights law.

John Hussey, Solicitor with John Hussey & Co. Solicitors will deliver a session on family law. John will speak about, amongst other things, access, custody & maintenance issues and guardianship. He will also deal with domestic violence legislation including protection and barring orders.

PILA is a project of FLAC – the Free Legal Advice Centres. It operates a pro bono referral scheme that matches expertise in the legal profession with specific legal needs in NGOs and community organisations. Through the scheme it aims to increase the capacity of organisations to use law in the public interest through legal education, law reform and litigation.

 

Nasc (The Irish Immigrant Support Centre) is a non governmental organisation that works for an integrated society based on principles of human rights, social justice and equality. Nasc believes in access to justice for all and provides a free legal service to immigrants and their families. Nasc uses the evidence gathered through its legal service to campaign for change in national immigration policy and legislation.
