Save the Date: ‘Beyond McMahon – the future of asylum reception in Ireland’

Thu, March 22, 2018

We are pleased to announce that Nasc and UCC’s Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights will be hosting a conference ‘Beyond McMahon – the future of asylum reception in Ireland’ on Wednesday, the 25th April, 2018.

Our keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Bryan McMahon. We also look forward to hearing from Teresa Mendes, Director of the Portuguese Refugee Council, and Sabir Zazai, Director of the Scottish Refugee Council. In addition, there will be input from a range of non-governmental and governmental stakeholders.

This event will examine the Irish asylum reception system – ‘direct provision’ – three years on from the publication of the McMahon Report of the Working Group on the Protection Process and Direct Provision. It will also pose the question, what could it look like in years to come?

This conference is kindly supported by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission. More details on the conference programme will follow in the coming weeks.
