Nasc Ireland is recruiting a Course Coordinator Volunteer (1 day per week / 7.5 hours)

Nasc is an independent human rights organisation based in Cork City. We link migrants to their rights and seek to enable migrants to access justice and human rights. We work to ensure a just, inclusive and integrated society.

Under the direction of management, the volunteer will help to plan, develop and administer the delivery of an accredited community education course; Information and Communication Technologies 3M0877 (NFQ Level 3).

Primary responsibilities include: planning course components in collaboration with the Course Tutor, course evaluation and quality assurance, and recruitment of course applicants.

Ongoing supervision and regular learning opportunities will ensure that the volunteer is getting the most from the position.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Course Tutor, ensure that the course design and delivery meets the educational needs of the target group; asylum seekers, refugees and migrants experiencing disadvantage.
  • Administer the delivery of an accredited community education course: Information and Communication Technologies 3M0877 (NFQ Level 3).
  • Course components of this award are: Word Processing 3N0588, Spreadsheets 3N0542, Computer Literacy 3N0881, Internet Skills 3N0931, Mathematics 3N0929, Communication 3N0880
  • Monitor student support and enrollment activities.
  • Frequently liaise with and provide reports to the Cork Education and Training Board (ETB), including enrollment reports and progression outcomes.
  • Maintaining compliance with ETB policies and QQI standards in all aspects of course development and delivery.
  • Monitors courses to ensure they meet quality control standards.
  • Administers the delivery of classes and events
  • Assisting and monitoring the collection of course fees
  • Coordinating locations, times and other logistics for the purposes of course delivery.
  • Course promotion and participating in community education events, i.e. the Lifelong Learning Festival.
  • Represent Nasc at the Citywide Community Education Network, a network of community education providers in Cork City who work collaboratively to share information and resources, highlight policy issues and ensure that community education is valued.
  • Other tasks as may be reasonably required.

Knowledge, experience, skills relevant for the position:

  • Previous experience working in a similar position may be an advantage;
  • Commitment to equality and human rights;
  • Enthusiastic and motivated;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative;
  • Ability to communicate cross-culturally to speakers of English as a second language.
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Understanding and sensitivity towards asylum and refugee issues;
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
