Lifelong Learning Festival at Nasc: March 27th 2010
Nasc hosted our part in the Lifelong Learning Festival. Events included a Dressmaking workshop facilitated by Nasc's Women's Group member Bode Sanni , and an interactive session with Marie Claire Kah from Nasc's Speakers' Panel providing information on her country of origin.

St. Patrick's Day Parade - Nasc & Mayfield Arts : March 17th 2010
Nasc collaborated with Mayfield Arts to produce the project for this year's St. Patrick's Day Festival. The theme for the festival was "Ship to Shore"- Many members from Nasc's Social & Cultural Group and Women's Group helped to design & make the costumes & art work & exhibit them on the day see photos...

This is part of Nasc's Social & Cultural Group. The group shows independant movies and documentaries
in a multicultural environment
The last film "Miracle at St Anna" shown on the 16 of March was an epic about the Second World War
A deep story about racism, ideological intolerance, xenophobia, ethical dilemmas but also explores the power of faith, hope and humanism…
After the movie participants are given the opportunity to take part in a discussion on the movie theme.

International Women's Day: Saturday, 06 March 2010
Nasc, in coordination with the Sexual Violence Centre, Women of the World and Cork African Women's group celebrated International Women's Day in the Sexual Violence Centre, Cork.
Food and drinks were served along with a Fashion show and African dance and music.

Nasc & Cois Tine Christmas Party : December 12th 2009

We had a large attendance at this year's Christmas party which was hosted by Nasc and Cois Tine at South Parish Community Centre. Many people came to enjoy the food, games, facepainting, music and the Fashion show.

Over 150 women & children came on this outing. The day was a great success with music, food, games & good weather.

Make your Mark Campaign event Lord Mayor

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

'Make Your Mark' Campaign ......
On March 9th 2009, the Lord Mayor Cllr. Brian Bermingham launched an information leaflet as part of Nasc’s Make Your Mark campaign in the City Hall . This campaign is focused on increasing awareness among migrants of the political process in Ireland and encouraging their participation in the upcoming Local and European elections. The Lord Mayor spoke to the assembled crowd about the positive aspects of the democratic process and encouraged all present to engage with the process. Councillors from each of the political parties represented in Cork City Council as well as representatives of Nasc

Make your Mark Campaign


Nasc’s ‘Make Your Mark’ campaign seeks to increase awareness and participation in the political process among immigrants in Ireland. . Immigrants now comprise a large proportion of the population of Ireland but we have yet to see this translate into political representation. The Local and European elections in June 2009 presented a real opportunity for immigrants to have their voice heard and to let politicians know what concerns them.

20 members of Nasc Women's Group and Nasc volunteers marched in St Patrick's Day parade this year. They designed the costumes, masks and enjoyed the fun of the day.

Dev Ed Play

Development Education Drama Production, Triskel Arts Centre- 16th January 2009 Nasc Drama Group presented : 'What Dreams May Come'. A development education play, which used the medium of drama to highlight the problems that immigrants experience.

Cuan cinnte campaign symbol

Launch of Cuan Cinnte? (A Safe Harbour?), Nasc Campaign on the Asylum/Protection System and Direct Provision on the 7th of April 2008...
Nasc is running a Campaign for Asylum-Seekers rights and we need your support !
The pin in the picture (on the left) is a character from the Celtic alphabet known as ‘Ogham’. Each character was related to a type of tree which was thought to possess specific properties. The character on the pin represents ‘protection’, which is the reason we chose it for our campaign on asylum rights.
Nasc is running this campaign because of the mounting body of evidence which suggests that the asylum system, and the system of Direct Provision, is in need of reform if it is to process applications for protection in a humane and timely manner. Nasc is calling for a number of reforms

Family_Reunification_film_launch

Nasc launched its new film on Family Reunification on 10th May 2008....

In association with Cork based Frameworks Films, Nasc produced a documentary on Family Reunification entitled Together Again. The film was screened in the Triskel Arts Centre, Cork. In addition to this film, Nasc also showed a documentary we produced in 2005 entitled Who are we now? We are currently planning to use both films as part of our ongoing campaigns on Direct Provision and Family Reunification. The intention is to show the films throughout the country and expose as many people as possible to the issues raised in the films

EEE Launch April 28th 2008

Nasc’s Strategy on Access to Employment, Enterprise and Education for Migrants in Cork....

This strategy entitled 'Integrating the Future', as well as our information booklet: Employment, Enterprise and Education, a Guide for Migrants in Cork were launched on April 28th at an event in the Clarion Hotel in Cork city. The Lord Mayor, Cllr Donal Counihan opened the day’s proceedings which also saw speeches from 3 migrants, each on the subject of employment, education and enterprise. The publication was officially launched by Ted Owens, CEO of Cork City Vocational Education Committee. more...
