Policy & Campaigning sub-group

Policy and Campaigning sub-group

One of Nasc’s most dynamic sub-groups is our Policy and Campaigning group which identifies and develops policies on issues of interest to our members, actively lobbies to change issues of concern to us, networks with other organisations and gets involved in serious political and advocacy work.

It provides members with an opportunity to build their own understanding of the various issues covered by our policy and advocacy work.  The group also sets action steps for members; examples of recent actions performed by the group members include:

  • Visiting politicians as part of current family reunification campaign
  • Attending and participating in networking meetings (e.g. Integrating Ireland at the national level; Cork Networking Community at local level)
  • Helping to write policy positions
  • Monitoring media and bringing articles of interest to group
  • Organising seminars, launches, events, training
  • 'Together Again', our Family Reunification Campaign and the 'Integrating the Future', our Education, Enterprise and Employment Project arose from work done by the policy group.

At the sub group meetings members discuss approaches to Nasc's policy work and members of the group support the work of Nasc in different ways. Some members may help with campaigning work, others may attend meetings on behalf of Nasc or help organise events while others help with posters, photocopying or general administrative work.

You do not need to know anything about Policy in order to participate. You just need to have a strong desire to see changes and improvements in the lives of migrants in Ireland.

The group meets once a month, although smaller groups may meet in the interim to organise around specific action points.
