Women's sub-group

The Women’s Group offers support and friendship for its members, providing a safe environment for them to raise issues relating specifically to women. The group organises ongoing activities and trainings as determined by its members.

Examples of recent events and trainings are as follows:

  • Information sessions on issues of interest (female genital mutilation, domestic violence, child development)
  • Training courses (childcare, personal development)
  • Social activities, such as day trips & children’s summer camps

Whilst the Women’s Group up until now has been a valuable source of friendship and support for its members we aim to begin to identify and take action on general women’s issues in a broader context, for example:

  • Develop a clear agenda on women-specific issues relating to the immigration and asylum system
  • Address gender specific issues such as violence against women, rape, FGM and sexual violence, in a supportive, women-only environment
  • Engage with the National Women’s Council and similar bodies locally and nationally to bring the migrant women’s perspective to the political agenda
